Halloween may have come and gone, but The Simpsons still aren't through with their horror-themed episodes yet this year. According to a plot synopsis for this month's upcoming Thanksgiving episode, called "Thanksgiving of Horror," three stories will be told in the form of nightmares, reminiscent of many "Treehouse of Horror" Halloween specials from years past. While containing horror elements, each of the stories will also somehow play into a Thanksgiving theme, making the episode appropriate for the festive holiday. "Thanksgiving of Horror" is set to air on FOX on the evening of Nov. 24.

We don't have any photos of the episode yet to go by, but the synopsis gives us an idea of what to expect. By depicting each of the three stories as nightmares suffered by the Simpson family, "Thanksgiving of Horror" will explore the first Thanksgiving, a story about an "A.I. mishap," and a dangerous space mission complicated by a sentient cranberry sauce. At least one special guest appearance will be featured on the episode as well, as German filmmaker and actor Werner Herzog is listed in the credits to voice Walter Hottenhoffer - a role he previously played in the 2011 episode "The Scorpion's Tale" and the 2019 episode "Crystal Blue-Haired Persuasion."

Just recently, The Simpsons aired its 30th Treehouse of Horror Halloween special. Oddly enough, the show marked the 666th episode of the series, with the marketing for the episode suggesting the writers had planned it that way from the very beginning. The episode was incredibly entertaining, continuing the show's tradition of having its Halloween-themed episode standing out as one of the best of the season. Its stories saw spoofs of the popular Netflix horror series Stranger Things along with a new take on the Oscar-winning Guillermo del Toro movie The Shape of Water. Apparently, the writers of The Simpsons still had more horror stories they wanted to soon tell, but that's certainly no problem for big fans of the "Treehouse of Horror" episodes.

Another interesting episode we can expect to see in season 31 of The Simpsons will spoof popular superhero movies like Avengers: Infinity War. The episode will follow Bart getting mistaken for a terminally-ill child, granting him access to see an upcoming superhero movie before it is released in theaters. The troublemaker that he is, Bart then uses his knowledge of the spoilers as blackmail to get whatever he wants. Also appearing in the episode as special guest voice actors are Marvel head Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers, who co-directed two Avengers movies and two Captain America movies together.

Longtime fans of The Simpsons will also be able to check out every episode from the show's three decades on the air on the new streaming service Disney+, which launches this month on Nov. 12. Now in the midst of its 31st season, the series has already been renewed for a season 32 as well, meaning America's favorite animated family isn't going anywhere for a long time.
