Amazon appears confident they have a hit on their hands, as The Boys has been given an early season 2 pickup by the company. The announcement was made during the panel for the upcoming comic book adaptation, which comes from the minds of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, at San Diego Comic-Con. The panelists wasted no time revealing that the blood-soaked superhero action will continue for a new batch of episodes, as they made the announcement early on during the show.

As we have learned at SDCC, not only has The Boys been picked up for a second season already, Seth Rogen confirmed that they are already in the middle of shooting season 2. It's expected that the sophomore season will arrive sometime in 2020. Though, that may be a bit premature to discuss, since season 1 doesn't even kick off until next week. In any case, it's a good sign for anyone who plans on tuning in. The panel was moderated by Aisha Tyler. Producers Rogen and Eric Kripke, who also serves as showrunner, took the stage at SDCC, alongside stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara and Elisabeth Shue.

Another important announcement was made at the panel. Aya Cash, known best for her work on the FX series You're The Worst, has been added to the cast in the role of Stormfront. This is significant, as Stormfront was originally a man in the source material. Gender-swapping is nothing new in Hollywood, but it does show that the creative minds behind the series are making strides to have The Boys be more inclusive.

Amazon describes The Boys as an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who, in this world, are as popular as celebrities and as influential as politicians, are revered as Gods and abuse their superpowers, as opposed to using them for good. The series centers on "Supes," who have been committing despicable, violent acts that keep brushed off, given that they are revered by an adoring public. Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) takes it upon himself to recruit a group comprised of individuals who have all been wronged by The Seven, the world's most notorious superheroes. The group makes a vow to bring them down and stop the corruption.

The Boys started life as a comic book series in 2006. Written by Garth Ennis, the series ran for a total of 72 issues, concluding its run in 2012. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg previously adapted Ennis' highly-regarded comic book series Preacher into a show for AMC, which is set to wrap up with its upcoming season 4. The Boys season 1 consists of eight episodes and is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video on July 26.
