Ahead of its release on the streaming service in 2020, Netflix has unveiled our first look at Christian Serratos as real-life late singer Selena Quintanilla in Selena: The Series. Previously, Serratos had been reported to be cast as the titular singer, and along with a new teaser video for the series, Netflix has also revealed several other additions to the cast.

The new teaser shows us Christian Serratos in character as Selena on stage, and those of us who remember the music legend from the '90s will see that the resemblance is uncanny. You can check out the first look at Serena: The Series below.

Campaniaro Entertainment is developing the Netflix series, with Jaime Davila, Rico Martinez, Suzette Quantinilla, Simran A. Singh, and Moises Zamora executive producing. Selena: The Series will follow the short life and career of Selena Quintanila, exploring both her personal relationships with her family and her time on stage making her dreams come true. Also joining Serratos in the cast are Ricarco Chavira (Desperate Housewives) and Gabriel Chavarria (The Purge) in lead roles, with a new report confirming the cast has also added Noemi Gonzalex (The Young and the Restless) as Selena's sister and best friend Suzette and Seidy Lopez (Training Day) as Selena's mother Marcella. Newcomer Madison Taylor Baez will also play a young Selena.

Known as the Queen of Tejano music, Selena Quantanilla was named by Billboard magazine as the top-selling artist of the 1990's. Born in 1971, the singer first began performing since 1980 as a part of the band Selena y Los Dinos with her elder sisters. As a solo artist, her talent had begun skyrocketing her popularity, leading to Selena winning the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987 - she then won it nine consecutive times. By 1995, as Selena's popularity was only continuing to grow, her life came to a sudden and tragic end when she was shot to death by her former manager. Though she died at the very young age of 23, Selena had built an enduring legacy which remains as strong as ever to this very day.

Serratos is best known for her major role as Rosita Espinosa on the AMC zombie drama The Walking Dead. She has been appearing regularly on the series since her debut in its fourth season, and with the show now in the midst of season 10, Serratos is now one of the series' longest-surviving characters. Her casting in Selena: The Series has left fans to speculate her character might be killed off on The Walking Dead, but as the net Netflix show is going to be a limited series, it shouldn't take up too much of Serratos' time.

Selena: The Series will launch in 2020, but Netflix has not provided an exact premiere date at this time. Principal photography began last month, and the series will initially launch with six episodes. What we've seen so far looks great and the potential is high for the show to do justice to the real Selena Quintanilla. The casting news for the series comes to us from Deadline and the first look video comes from Netflix streaming service on YouTube.
