Sherlock Season 3 may not debut until late 2013
The new season may not debut until the fall of 2013 on BBC, with PBS airing the show for U.S. broadcast in either late 2013 or early 2014. Both Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have high-profile projects such Star Trek Into Darkness and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey being released in the near future.
Sherlock debuted on the BBC in July 2010, with three 90-minute episodes. Season 2 aired the U.K. this past January, with PBS debuting the new episodes in May.
