Why is he taking this extra time? The comedian explained his plans this morning via a conference call, calling Louie Season 4 a complete reinvention of the show. And he will use the hiatus to improve, expand, and evolve the series into something new.
I want Season 4 to go somewhere new. Even if it's a small degree of shift. I am looking back to the first season, and the time I took to approach the show. And which directions to go in. I want that back again. I want a little breathing room.
I will start shooting the show earlier than I normally do. We usually begin shooting in March for a June launch. This time, I think we will start shooting in September or October for a May launch, so I have way more lead up time. This also means I can edit without shooting. I used to shoot, promote, and edit all at the same time in June. I think I can do better work if I space these things out.
I feel like Season 1, Season 2, and Season 3 were a trilogy in three parts. Say Pie in the Sky, the show goes 9 seasons. The second part of this trilogy would Seasons 4-6. Whatever ends up happening, I would like the show to start new. I want to start a new story. I don't know what that is yet. It's going to take a little breathing time, and a little bit of pie and coffee to figure that out."
Stay tuned for more from Louis C.K. on Louie Season 4 in the near future.
