This period drama is being penned by Michael Seitzman and produced by Di Bonaventura Pictures TV and ABC Studios.
NBC is describing the series as an epic romance set in a world of sorcery, gods and monsters, and it will primarily center on Cleopatra, Mark Antony and Julius Caesar. As you can see by that premise, it will play fast and loose with any historical accuracy. The main arc of the story finds Cleopatra trying to win back her throne after making a sacred pact with a goddess, thus igniting a curse and an infamous love triangle that will change the course of history forever.
It is not known when this incarnation of Cleopatra will go into production. Casting is currently out for all three leads. David Fincher is now set to direct the theatrical version of Cleopatra, since James Cameron has decided to devote all of his time to Avatar. The big screen version of the story will not involve any sci-fi elements.
